Company History

Line

Zebra Imaging was founded in 1996 by graduates of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s Media Laboratory. The mission of the company was established at that time: to develop and provide the best technologies and products for three-dimensional visual communications. With initial and continuing support from investors, the company has succeeded in producing and delivering the most innovative holographic products and technology in the world.

Zebra is the only company that offers digital holograms that are autostereoscopic (no glasses or goggles required), full-parallax (viewing of the image over and under as well as from side to side), and full-color. Zebra’s technique produces images that are scalable to any size, and yet portable, since they are recorded and mounted either onto flexible film or rigid modular tiles. Unlike single-view and binocular 3-D displays, Zebra holographic images enable intuitive image-based collaboration, since they require no special eyewear or head trackers, and display all perspectives simultaneously for independent access by any number of viewers. Zebra horizontal holographic images allow 360° viewing , and vertical holograms can be viewed over 100°. The imagery in the holograms can be subdivided into channels to show short animations or peel-away and overlay views.

The company is composed of some of the foremost experts in 3-D imaging, and systems design, development and engineering, and has sought to augment its capabilities by forming key business partners. Zebra has developed significant intellectual property in its core field, having been granted 31 U.S. patents, with many others pending in the U.S. and abroad.
